Covering an area of 24091.3 square kilometers. The evergreen
province of Mazandaran has 1,46 percent of the whole area of Iran.
It is limited northward by the Caspian Sea, eastward by Golestan
province, southward by the provinces of Semnan, Te-liran and Qazvin,
and westward by Guilan province. There was always a link between
the natural attractions, forest, mountain, sea and this legendary
land. The Alborz mountain range and the Caspian Sea have created the
most beautiful natural views. This province enjoys a temperate
weather. Its southern part is mountainous and the coastal plains
lie in its northern part. The most important rivers flowing in this
province are Safarood, Do-Hezar, Se-Hezar, Chaloos, Haraz, Babol,
Talar, Tajan and Neka. The Caspian Sea is regarded as a valuable
treasure of marine animals whose caviar, famous as Black Pearls, is
one of the country's important exports.
Having 15 cities and 63 towns, this area enjoys extensive rice
paddies, grain fields and citrus orchards. Mazandaran is connected
to Tehran and the other cities of Iran by the highways of Haraz,
Kandavan and Firoozkooh, the road from Kiasar to Semnan, the
northern trans-Iranian railway and the international airports in
Dasht-e Naz, Sari, Now-shahr and Ramsar. The Caspian Sea connects
this province to the Central Asian countries.
The most important handicrafts produced in the province are guelims,
ja-jims, felt, pottery and wooden items.
