Traditional arts are part of a cultural heritage left behind by our ancestors. They manifest the talent and creativity of their ex­ponents and represent the artistic, cultural, historic and economic aspects of any region. The traditional arts of Mazandaran typify the religious and cultural characteristics of its in­habitants. They came into existence hi response to the needs of their makers. Grafting wooden items is one of the traditional arts which include the daily-used array of wooden trays (danehpash), skimmers, ladles, canes, etc. The vil­lagers occupy themselves with felt-making, straw plaiting, j'ajim weaving, silk weaving and socks knitting in their leisure time. Carpets are among handcrafts produced in accordance with the spe­cific artistic features found in any region.
